The Wisdom Behind Having Your Entire IT Team Over For Dinner
Submitted by Matt Brown on
Just about anything you do with your team, whether it's a monthly game night or that one time you got pizza for lunch, can be thought of as "team building."
In an Enterprise Project blog post, Curt Carver, CIO for the board of regents of the university system of Georgia, says going the extra mile when it comes to this kind of official fun really pays off. He's made a regular event of having his team over for dinner.
"It turns out that something I do naturally is turning out to be a differentiator for us," Carver writes, "inviting everyone on my 250-member team over to my house for dinner."
The return is a team that sees the state's university system as an employer that offers something other employers do not. The dinners have also become a favorite happening among IT department employees.
Carver's is an interesting take on fostering a strong IT culture, attracting employees and keeping them around. You can read his entire post here.
