Sony Pictures Breach Offers Up Many Standard Lessons
Sony Pictures Entertainment is still reeling from a data breach of its systems Nov. 24. The attackers struck the company's corporate network and maintained persistence for a long period of time and security experts tell IT Best of Breed that the volume of leaked data suggests that they gained unfettered access to the company's sensitive database servers. Sony reportedly brought in Mandiant, the digital forensics arm of security vendor FireEye to investigate the extent of the incident. A group calling itself "Guardians of Peace," have claimed responsibility for the attack.
