Numbers Favor Job Seekers

Lanny Cornwell says his company, F1 Computer Solutions, is feeling the strain of an information technology job market that tilts toward the job seeker.

In September, the national unemployment rate in IT was 3.2 percent, well below the overall national rate of 5 percent, according to Robert Half Technology.

Cornwell, co-founder and director of the Warrenton, Va.-based solution provider's government solutions division, says F1 is having a hard time finding qualified candidates for technical roles. Yet, he adds, it's not solely on the technical side where they're falling short. "Candidates are not meeting our expectations for work ethic, focus on delivery or, what we call, dedication to the mission," Cornwell said in an emailed response to a question from IT Best Of Breed.
