Building Tomorrow's Tech Workforce
There is widespread agreement that the U.S. is suffering from a technical skills gap that’s putting pressure on solution providers, as well as vendors and end-user businesses.
In 2015, President Barack Obama created TechHire, an initiative to expand local technology sectors by building talent pipelines in communities around the country. Last month, the Obama administration brought several hundred people in IT together at The White House to address talent issues and share best practices as part of its TechHire Initiative. One of them was Tim Hebert, longtime CEO at Atrion, a solution provider based in Warwick, R.I., who is chief client officer at its parent company, Carousel Industries, since it acquired Atrion in October 2016.
Hebert (pictured), who has been involved in workforce issues in The Ocean State, talked about the event and tech workforce issues in this interview, which was edited for brevity and clarity.
