Security firm Symantec is sounding the alarm when it comes to Internet of Things devices, calling the current state of the technology plagued with risks and sloppy hardware implantation.
In a report released last week, Symantec blasts IoT device makers for not using encrypted communications or proper authentication. The security firm also chided IoT firms for relying on weak passwords for IoT management consoles.
The Symantec study, that scrutinized 50 smart home devices, concluded that the industry needed to shape up fast as nearly 2.9 billion connected IoT devices are expected in consumer homes in 2015, according to Gartner.
