Push The Boundaries

Innovators are obsessed with pushing the boundaries, Linkner said. While many people say companies shouldn't reinvent the wheel, Linkner said that is exactly what innovators are supposed to do.

"Our job is absolutely to reinvent the wheel, because if we don’t our competition is going to do it on top of us," Linkner said.

When trying to reinvent the wheel in technology, Linkner said to look for what he called the "10x advantage." He said an innovation is worth investing in if it is ten times better than its predecessor.

"It creates a snowball of momentum and you'll gain progress and you'll get excited and gain morale...If you really want to think about sustainable growth, whether you're an MSP or a software engineer...that 10x advantage is going to drive you ahead," Linkner said.
