Making Wireless Work
Ah, wireless. When it’s working, all is well. When it’s not, IT departments will surely hear about it. Wireless connectivity is becoming more central for CIOs and IT leaders now that greater varieties of devices depend on it. In a retail or hospital setting, for instance, an employee’s ability to perform is often dependent on a wireless device that requires constant connectivity. Business processes are now closely tied to the ability to connect. The need for ubiquitous wireless coverage is growing, as voice has different requirements for Wi-Fi connectivity than data. Resellers need to be aware that when selling or designing for Wi-Fi in the enterprise, voice over Wi-Fi will require the placement of more access points to cover difficult to reach areas like stairwells, basements, corridors, etc. When employees rely on poorly designed Wi-Fi networks within office spaces or specific work environments like retail or manufacturing floors, lack of connectivity can cause costly disruptions.
