How An SP Leverages Networking Expertise To Enter The Cloud

Can you give an example of how ADCom accommodates hybrid cloud traffic?
ADCom is employing Cisco's intelligent WAN (iWAN) solution for routing cloud-based traffic – one of the biggest products in this space, Tidwell said. There are many providers that offer a dual WAN solution that can route traffic in the way that’s most appropriate for the service being delivered. At the same time, many businesses have adopted a method that combines multiple providers at its branch locations. While this used to be done in an active-and-passive mode, or primary-and-failover mode, it's no longer an effective model, Tidwell said.
"The customer is paying two bills for two circuits and at the same time, only using one of them in event of a failure," he said. "With the adoption of Cisco iWAN for hybrid networks, you are taking both of those connections and effectively bonding the two. Cisco iWAN has an internal algorithm that determines the least-cost routing path for (that) kind of traffic. Many of these branches are using services like Voice over IP (VoIP) and unified communications (UC). With iWAN, traffic will take the least-cost path but will still be prioritized if it's something critical like voice. iWAN can combine either two private networks, like MPLS, or two separate providers, like Comcast and AT&T."
