Business executives who think they will make the same amount of money by having more of a balance are wrong, Chesonis said, but having that balance is very much worth it. While going to conferences and industry events shouldn't be avoided, Chesonis told the audience he wishes he had either cut back or brought his children along to some of the more family-friendly locations.

"I absolutely wish I spent one extra night at home as my kids were growing up," he said. "It ultimately didn’t change the stock price I got."
