Tablets Shrinking In Device Market
According to Intermedia's mobility trends report, the newly activated devices in their network that were iPads shrunk from 16.2 percent in 2013 to 13.7 percent in 2014. That number was even higher in 2012, with 18.6 percent.
Levine attributed the seemingly-shrinking demand for business users both to the rise of hybrid laptops at the high end, and the parallel rise of big-screened phones, or "phablets," at the low end.
"We've seen over the last four years decreasing activation rates in tablet share versus phones as mobile devices," he said. "We're not sure why that is, but one reason might be that phones are more heavily subsidized than tablets, while at the high end we're seeing more success for the hybrid laptop."
