Annual RightScale Survey Reveals Cloud Adoption Trends

Watch Out For Docker

The rise of DevOps brings ever more tools to help IT teams leverage automated configuration management solutions.

Chef, Puppet, Salt, and Ansible are all popular options. But over the last year, Docker, the Linux container technology, "has also stormed onto the scene as another way to deploy code assets on infrastructure," according to RightScale.

Of those solutions, Chef's been around longest and has won a commanding 28 percent of business from respondents polled, followed by Puppet, used by almost a quarter of all DevOps practitioners surveyed. Puppet leads among enterprise respondents with 36 percent.

Docker's only used by 13 percent of respondents, but the technology isn't even two years old yet. More than one-third told RightScale they plan to use Docker.
