Protecting Employee Data
The attackers behind the Sony Pictures breach leaked Social Security numbers, bank account information, credit card details on current and former employees. The leak is said to have included data from 47,000 people, including celebrities, including Sylvester Stallone, director Judd Apatow. Sony is reportedly already facing a lawsuit brought on by former employees. Solution providers tell IT Best of Breed that the leak suggests that the attackers gained access to the company's Human Resources systems. Similar lapses can take place if HR functions are outsourced, but third-parties that handle the work typically use encryption or redact Social Security numbers and other personally identifiable information.
