The annual Verizion Data Breach Investigations Report consistently points out the need for organizations to monitor security systems and recommends the use of security information event management platforms to identify suspicious patterns that could signal an attack in progress. Security experts told IT Best of Breed that the sheer amount of data being uploaded to a remote server should have raised enough eyebrows to prompt a thorough investigation into the activity. Such systems need to be regularly maintained and an employee, typically a security analyst, staffs them to proactively investigate the veracity of alerts generated by the SIEM platform.
