Healthcare organizations, retailers and financial firms are well aware of the importance of data encryption. A lost or stolen device won't have to be reported as a breach if the data is properly encrypted. The problem is that encryption is not a silver-bullet. One of the most common issues is improperly configured encryption deployments that provide organizations a false sense of security about the protection of their data. Solution providers say key management continues to be a complex and challenging issue for organizations. Encryption also breaks third-party applications and other systems that tap into data stores to display critical information to employees.
